Engineering Intern

May 2017 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

My team treats me like a full time engineer who has years of experience, even though I am an intern. They know I don’t have all of the answers, but they let me figure it out and enable me to pull in the resources I need to get things done and really make a business-wife impact.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have come in with more statistics based engineering’s knowledge. Engineering students: do everything you can to learn about this while still in school, even if it means taking optional course she.

What I liked

Extensive co-op program with plenty of opportunities for learning, socializing, and volunteering.

Aerospace Engineering Intern

May - July 2018 • Bangalore, Karnataka

What I liked

They had a great mentorship program, the internship was very well organized and we all had one project to work on, so it was very rewarding.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was longer.

Advice

Most internship experiences depend on how you involve yourself and how much you are willing to take up and it was the same at GE. People who wanted to do the bare minimum were allowed to do that, and those who wanted to do multiple projects were given the right resources for that too.

What I liked

I loved my job and the people I was working with. They were only s couple years older than me so it was cool getting to see where I might be in a couple years.

The location. I was isolated from everyone I knew this summer.

Advice

Go out of your comfort zone. I learned so much this summer partly because I would ask questions and ask for help.

DTLP Intern

May - August 2017 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

I found the work environment and people to be incredible. It’s a big company that feels like a start up environment in a lot of ways. While they were seeming to have a bit of financial trouble as a larger company, the intern group was still treated well and I had an amazing time.

What I wish was different

I wouldn’t change much of anything besides wanting to be in a different city. Cincinnati is nice, but since I knew the area I wanted to experience somewhere else.

Advice

Make sure to take advantage of the connections you make, everyone is always moving in GE and you never know when you’ll see a person later in your career or time at GE.

Mechanical Engineer In

May - July 2018 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

I had a great experience interacting with my team and felt like I was given projects appropriate to my skill level that challenged me.

What I wish was different

There's not much that I would have changed. The only thing I noticed early on was how it took a while to complete trainings, get badge access, etc. before I could start working on my projects.

Advice

I used this internship as an opportunity to meet as many people as I could and tour as many of their buildings and manufacturing floors as possible.

Digital Technology Leadership Program Intern - Close Simplification and BI Lead

June - August 2017 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

Fantastic internship program - interns were given a lot of responsibility which was unexpected considering the size of the company. I got to work with some incredibly talented people and was encouraged to pursue my own interests as well ask working on my job. I was matched very well with the project I was given for the summer so I felt I could really excel, but every day I was challenged to improve my skills to improve my project overall.

What I wish was different

We came into the program and were told that they were looking to hire a lot of the interns, however in the end they didn't hire as many as we were originally told. Amazing experience - wish it would have led to a full time job, but the majority of interns, were not hired.

Advice

Take advantage of the open door policy that GE has - ask any full time employee of the company to go with you to get coffee to learn more about their career and the company.
