CDC Graduate Student Peer Advisor 2023-2024

This position will work on a team of 2 graduate student CDC Peer Advisors in collaboration with the undergraduate CDC Peer Advisors. Peer Advisors advise students on career-related topics; facilitate presentations to students on Career Development Center topics, programs, and services; and support the many general CDC activities and initiatives with some targeted programming and services to master's and PhD students .  This position is approximately 8 hours/week starting in A Term 2023, with 2 hours/week training throughout D Term 2023. (Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as they are received).

Responsibilities:
  • Advise and provide feedback to students in one-on-one drop-ins and appointments.
  • Facilitate presentations on general and graduate student focused Career Development topics, such as: Handshake, CDC Resources & Services, Career Fair Prep, Resumes, Job Searching, and more.
  • Assist events by table sitting, serving on panels, checking students in, answering student questions, and with special career fair responsibilities.
  • Help to market specialized graduate Career Development Center programs and services.
  • Maintain awareness, familiarity, and usage of CDC resources, programs, and events.
  • May assist with curating and composing Graduate Student CDC Newsletter.
  • Assist with other programming activities & projects in the Career Development Center.

Qualifications:
  • Must be a current student enrolled in a degree granting first year masters students or early to mid-stage PhD students.
  • Awareness and usage of CDC services is strongly preferred.
  • Previous student leadership and peer advising experience a plus.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills. 
  • Time available to commit to approximately 2 hours/week for training in D Term 2023.
  • Time available to commit to approximately 8 hours/week, with some evening work to accommodate workshops and events, during the 2023-2024 academic year.
  • Strong communication skills: collaboration with other peer advisors, presentation skills, public speaking, writing skills.
  • Familiarity with email newsletter development and marketing principles such as calls to action a plus, but not required.
